Victorian Tree of the Year

The Victorian Tree of the Year is a much loved celebration of the significant trees that have captured the hearts of Victorians; it could have a dramatic history, or a majestic canopy; it doesn’t have to be the biggest or the oldest of its kind, just the tree we love the most.

The contest continues to follow in the footsteps of immensely popular past winners including; the 2021 winner The Royal Oak, one of the largest English Oaks in the state and the oldest tree in the Castlemaine Botanic Gardens, and the 2023 winner Guildford’s Red River Gum – one of Victoria’s largest trees.

The National Trust of Australia (Victoria) is the state’s leading advocate for the protection of trees, celebrating the benefits they provide to our communities. Since 1982 the Trust has classified over 20,000 trees in 1,200 places across the state on the National Trust Significant Tree Register. 

 

2024 Competition

Nominations for the 2024 Victorian Tree of the Year have now closed. Thank you to everyone who nominated.

2024 Victorian Tree of the Year Shortlist

The National Trust’s Significant Tree Expert Committee will consider nominations and create a shortlist of 9 trees which will then go to a public vote. If your favourite tree has missed out or isn’t yet included on the National Trust Register of Significant Trees, don’t worry – there’s always next year.

Voting

The 2024 Shortlist and Voting for the Victorian Tree of the Year will be open at 9am on Monday 1 October to everyone through our website, and close at midnight on Tuesday 29 October.

The 2024 Victorian Tree of the Year winner, decided on by public vote, will be announced on Tuesday 12 November.
